Berlin City Views: The City Views are painted in the tradition of the vedute painting. The majority (over 300) is done in the technique of etchings or algraphs (a similar technique like a lithography – instead of a lithography stone there is used an aluminum foil covered with a special layer) with motifs from Berlin and the surrounding area, which are painted exclusively in watercolor. The number of the original edition is generally about 50. Hereby, precision is of immense importance to Heinz Sterzenbach. His work is characterized by a "very clear idyllic realism". The pictures are made from photos or sketches, which are taken outdoors or drawn in his studio. Then they are elaborated in the studio using the technique of Vernis Mou and Cold-Point Engraving. In some cases the technique of aquatint is applied. City Views from Europe or the world are mostly painted in watercolor or as ink drawings and partially veered, a method, which is much easier to apply during the numerous travels. City views from Berlin in the technique of etching and watercolor are very popular motifs. The technology of etching enables the filigree representation of urbane landscapes. Buildings, also trees, humans and vehicles are not only represented on the city views with a detailed opulence, which seems like magic. Curved lanterns, cobbles, sidewalk edges, crowns of tree with that variety of their branches, humans in their everyday clothes and architecture with all their storefront opulence. If you should be hunted by the charm of etchings in form of a city view, you can enjoy it and select from one of our numerous city views.
